What
to Expect When You Arrive:
- An
initial 45 minute session to ascertain your concerns and to obtain
relevant history.
- Subsequent
2-3 evaluative sessions as necessary.
- Optional
psychological testing (done on a case by case basis).
- Interpretative
session that discusses findings and recommendations.
What
to Tell Your Child About Making An Appointment:
- Explain
your concerns
- Be
honest
- Be
brief
- Place
emphasis on the family working together.
- If
testing is to be done, explain that the purpose is to help everyone
understand the child better. Our tests are not like tests in school
because children cannot pass or fail.
What
to Expect If Treatment Is Recommended:
We
believe that successful resolution of problems depends on many interrelated
factors including:
- Selection
of appropriate yet practical, solution-oriented treatment and
intervention strategies.
- A
good "fit" between child and therapist.
- Motivation
of parents and child.
- Willingness
to keep regularly scheduled appointments.
- Strong
commitment of the parents to meet with the staff and follow through
on recommendations.
