Linda Silber, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in Raleigh, North Carolina and the founder of Silber Psychological Services.
Dr. Silber grew up in the Midwest where she received her undergraduate and master’s degrees. As a young professional she began her career in mental health centers and in the psychology department of the Memphis City School System. Relocating to North Carolina, she obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology from North Carolina State University in 1978. After getting her doctorate she worked at UNC’s Center for Development and Learning in Chapel Hill before entering private practice.
Believing that no one particular treatment approach or professional works for everyone, she began broadening the practice by adding psychologists and a social worker with a wide range of depth and expertise in treatment of children and adolescents. This affords a collaborative approach to treatment and allows for creativity and the ability to match family needs with services and talented professionals.
Dr. Silber’s orientation is mostly cognitive-behavioral but she integrates other approaches that might be helpful to families. Her thirty years of practice gives her a long term view of human nature and children and adolescents’ resilience. While she enjoys treating young people with a wide variety of problems, she particularly likes working with children and adolescents with ADHD, anxiety, behavioral problems, eating disorders, learning disabilities, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
From the American Psychological Association she has received the Karl Heiser Presidential award for advocacy on behalf of professional psychology. Dr. Silber is a strong supporter of people having access to mental health treatment. Formerly she has served on the North Carolina Psychology Association board as Insurance chairperson, Director of Professional Affairs, and later President of North Carolina Psychological Association (NCPA).
